A Day To Remember

Saturday May 27th, 2006, will be a day to remember for eight children who are very ill in Budimex Oncology Ward. Happy memories - with
the sun shining, the birds singing, they emerged from their
confinement to pack into a lovely, new minibus to be taken to Herastrau Park. Every child was given the freedom to choose a gift from a little shop in the park. Such enthusiasm in choosing, checking and comment round every toy. A boat ride on the lake there was followed by adventure play in the woods. Whoopees of joy were heard as they were called to have a lunch in the lovely area outside the Restaurant "Casa Alba". Before the meal we stopped for a while to have a walk in the woods and to leave the children to enjoy a play area. What we saw was beautiful! Marian, Stefan, and Reuben, who are quite the same age playing and laughing in one corner while on another side Iulian and Robert, bigger boys of 15 or 16 years walked and talked together about football. Alina, a teenager, sat on another seat conversing in a serious way with two mothers from the Oncology Ward. Because of her illness, Alina looks older than her age. Marinica did not feel very well though he tried to be brave. So he stayed with the nurse who was kind and motherly with him. Ana-Maria, a little 4 year old, is unable to walk but, from her mother's arms she laughed and commented on all that the other children did. All that we saw was a beautiful picture with joy, emotion, laughter, caring and love.
Unfortunately, this is a temporary picture as, soon it will be time to return to the hospital. Although some were a little tired this did not
prevent them singing and reciting poetry en route for home. "When
will we go again?" is on the lips of a little group as we see them safely into Ward 5. To complete a happy picture we took a gift back to each child who could not come! Life's happiness depends on little joys!
